Jim founded Individual Fitness, LLC, in January 2002. He is considered to be one of the leading fitness experts, entrepreneurs, and developers in the world of health & fitness. Jim has over 12 years of experience in the industry, with a college background in exercise science, and has held or currently holds certifications through NSCA and NASM. In becoming a leading fitness expert, Jim has worked closely with many great pioneers of the fitness industry such as John Frappier founder of Frappier Acceleration, Larry Cunningham founder of Corepole to name a couple. In 2002, Jim was the first to create an original standalone private personal training studio in New Hampshire. In 2006, Jim was the first to bridge the gap between private one-on-one and private group personal training as two separate identities under one roof in New Hampshire. Jim continually strives to lead in the health & fitness industry for the greater good of mankind and believes that…your fitness should be as individual as you are!
John holds a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science from the University Of North Dakota. During his education he gained valuable experience as a teaching assistant which included adapting exercise regimens for 200 people with various physical and health limitations. As one professor stated, "What John has done for us in six months is more than most trainers would accomplish in 20 years." John is certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. His experience ranges from working with top athletes in an exercise physiology lab to cardiac patients in a rehabilitation setting.
John joined Individual Fitness in the summer of 2004. He chose IF because it reflects his philosophy of a healthy lifestyle. John shares the belief that services to the client must reflect the latest research, techniques and training in order to best help individuals achieve their goals.
Another factor in healthy lifestyle practices that John advocates is, "It's all about having fun. Somewhere along the line, we have forgotten how to have fun. In order for clients to succeed it's my job to make sure they are truly enjoying themselves." John takes the three main components of fitness - cardiovascular exercise, resistance training, and nutrition, and adapts and customizes a program that addresses all of these factors while creating an enjoyable experience for the client. How does he know this works - personal experience? Thirteen years ago John weighed over 300 pounds. He reports "He hated exercise and wasn't about to give up fast food. All that changed one day, when I was gasping for breath after I walked up a single flight of stairs. I changed the way I prepared my food, started lifting weights and engaged in cardiovascular training regularly. Before I knew it, I had lost 130 pounds and was having "fun."
As a part of his responsibilities at IF he constantly researches and addresses the newest developments in personal fitness and evaluates their potential for our clients. Rest assured he tries every new idea first to evaluate if it's acceptable and can be adapted to client's programs.
My primary mission is to help others in achieving total body wellness. Fitness is more than just working up a sweat. The achievement of total body wellness is consistent with health conscious decisions to move the body daily, make healthy food choices, and the practice of a positive attitude that will remain with an individual for a lifetime. I want to assist my clients in their commitment to a strong body, a calm mind, and a peaceful spirit to achieve the best they can be and have fun while doing it.
As a personal trainer, I incorporate core training into all my programs with the use of various types of exercises and equipment, for example: Pilates, Elastic Resistance, Stability Ball, Bosu along with strength training just to name a few. I firmly believe that by strengthening the stabilizing muscles of the spine, it will strengthen and improve the individual's ability to recruit them when needed and increase muscle endurance. It also helps relieve acute and chronic pain, improve daily functional activities, and maintain good posture.
I started my career in health and fitness as a group aerobics instructor in 1992 and am currently an ACE (American Council on Exercise) certified personal trainer. I hold a bachelor's degree from New England College in Business Management and a minor in Behavioral Studies. I am also currently working with at home clients. This gives me the opportunity to work very closely with each client in the comfort of their home environment. I am motivated and dedicated to my commitment to educate and encourage my community toward total body wellness. Each client's health and fitness goals are individual and unique. No two bodies are the same and the goal of each client has to be designed to meet the specific needs of the individual.
Health and fitness is a life long commitment and I have dedicated my life to assisting others with their goals of obtaining total body wellness through health conscious decisions, nutrition, exercise with a positive attitude, self awareness, and a commitment of dedication to ones body.

"Jim has showed me that wanting something means putting your whole heart into achieving it. Thanks to Jim, I now strive to achieve the most possible, and I'm unsatisfied with anything less."
